Why is Nvidia discontinuing the RTX 4090?

I am building a gaming PC for myself, and I was looking to install the RTX 4090 graphics card. I've heard that this graphics card is being discontinued, and I want to know why.

Nvidia has officially discontinued the GeForce RTX 4090 to make way for its next-generation RTX 5090 series. Production of the RTX 4090 ceased in October 2024, with remaining stock rapidly depleting and prices soaring due to limited availability . This move aligns with Nvidia's strategy to streamline its product lineup and focus on the upcoming RTX 50 series, which introduces significant performance upgrades and new technologies

Nvidia is likely discontinuing the RTX 4090 to make way for next-gen GPUs (like the **RTX 5090**) and due to shifting focus toward AI and data center products. Another reason could be stricter U.S. export controls on high-end GPUs to certain markets.

Nvidia is discontinuing the RTX 4090 to make room for its next-gen RTX 50-series (Blackwell architecture) GPUs like the RTX 5080/5090. Production of AD102 chips is being reallocated, shelves are cleared ahead of launch, and prices have surged as remaining stock dwindles

Nvidia is discontinuing the RTX 4090 in China due to U.S. export restrictions aimed at limiting advanced AI hardware sales to certain regions. These regulations target high-performance GPUs that could be used for military or AI development. Outside China, the RTX 4090 remains available, but Nvidia is shifting focus to newer GPUs and AI-focused products.
