Which is the best Pokemon emulator to play?

I am hearing a lot of hype among teens on Pokemon. Shall I gift one emulator to my nephew? Which one is the best Pokemon emulator? Gotta catch 'em all! I guess...

Great gift idea! For Pokémon emulators, use mGBA or VBA-M for Game Boy games, DeSmuME for Nintendo DS, and Citra for 3DS. Make sure to get legal ROMs. Gotta catch ‘em all!

Pokémon games span many Nintendo handhelds (Game Boy, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Switch). Each console generation requires a different type of emulator.

Best Pokémon Emulators (Short & Sweet):

  • GBA (Gen 1–3): Visual Boy Advance (VBA) – Fast, easy, and reliable.
  • DS (Gen 4–5): DeSmuME – Great performance and features.
  • 3DS (Gen 6–7): Citra – Best for X/Y, Sun/Moon, etc.
  • Switch (Gen 8–9): Yuzu or Ryujinx – Runs Sword/Shield & newer games.

Use ROMs legally, enable save states, and try randomizers for fun!

The best Pokémon emulator depends on the game generation. For Game Boy Advance titles, VisualBoyAdvance-M (VBA-M) is highly recommended. For Nintendo DS games, DeSmuME offers great performance and features. For 3DS games, Citra is the best choice. Each provides save states, cheats, and controller support, making Pokémon games smooth and enjoyable to play on PC.
