How to set up Xbox Series X for 144hz gaming correctly?

To enable 144Hz on Xbox Series X:
  1. Use an HDMI 2.1 cable.
  2. Go to Settings > General > TV & display options.
  3. Set Refresh rate to 120Hz (144Hz isn’t natively supported—max is 120Hz).
  4. Enable Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) if your monitor supports it.
 
To set up Xbox Series X for 144Hz gaming, connect it to a monitor with HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort via an HDMI 2.1 adapter. Go to Settings > General > TV & display options. Set resolution to 1440p and refresh rate to 120Hz. Enable VRR if supported. Xbox currently supports up to 120Hz, not 144Hz natively.
